If your foster cats have the sniffles
Sofia came to us with the sniffles. She’d just had her vaccinations for all ill things cat related. And our Foster lady with Save-the-Dog-Scheme said she might have the sneezes for the next couple of days.
A few days went by and our little furball took a turn for the worse. Her little kitten eyes plugged up with gunk. We even hand dripped water into her mouth so she would drink. At one point her eyes were hardly open on one side. She looked so congested. And she kept sneezing.
We started the Google Online Search only desperate people do when they start worrying ‘after-hours’. And were scared to rush off to the vet to spend a lot of money.
Our online searches only brought up some ghastly “cat respiratory disease” that could like, kill cats in 5 minutes. The future was looking grim for poor Sofia Sniffles. And she was only in our house 5 days!
Plus, she was only 5 weeks old! We thought this diagnosis sounded a bit too serious since she was still wrestling, playing and gobbling food.
Then, my partner noticed she still had a “suckling” habit. Before she went to sleep she was sucking on this woollen blanket we borrowed from Save-a-Dog.
On a whim, we removed the blanket. 2 days later, she was in the clear. It turns out cats can have allergies just like humans.
The nickname Sofia Sniffles stuck though.
